Recycling –Why it is good and What is wrong with Chicago?
Below is the link to an article that should put the final nail in the coffin of anyone who believes that recycling is a waste of time, money, or energy. This article states simply and clearly that recycling uses less energy and produces fewer pollutants than the conversion of raw materials into product or regular garbage programs.
A funny note about this article is the line about how Chicago is now turning a profit through recycling. Anyone that lives there currently can attest to just how poor the recycling program is in that most wonderful city. For a city that claims to be green, there is almost no private recycling. Residents are forced to ship their own recyclables to the few recycling centers scattered throughout the city. Apartment complexes are not required, nor do they have access to, recycling bins. Even if they did, there would be no one to pick it up. It is ridiculous that as 2008 draws to a close, we are still having the recycling debate and that people in the third largest city in the US have no recycling program.
